Elementary and Intermediate Vocal Music
A

s children enter the music program in the Elementary/Intermediate School, the goal is for them to have fun and enjoy their time in music class. Students are exposed to foundational concepts such as rhythm, beat, solfege, and simple choral techniques as well as exposure to Orff instruments and methodology.

Students perform at events like the annual Veteran’s Day Program, Christmas program and Easter program as well as the end of the year awards programs.

High School Choir
I

n High School Choir, the primary focus is on performance skills and learning how to use their gift to engage the culture.  Students are exposed to more challenging repertoire, sight-reading, music theory, and music history.  Students participate in solo and ensemble, and choral competitions and have an opportunity to audition for all-state ensembles.

Students may participate in the chapel worship band or choir and have multiple opportunities to sing and perform in the community and at numerous school events.  High school choir, drama, and band students have also combined to perform musical productions in recent years, including Madrigal Dinner, Fine Arts Variety Show, The Music Man, Jr., and Beauty and the Beast.

instrumental music
Beginning Band
S

tudents may begin band in 6th grade.  Students are exposed to foundational concepts such as rhythm, beat, embouchure, instrumental techniques, theory, and sight-reading.  Students perform at events like the annual Veteran’s Day Program, Christmas program, and end-of-year awards programs.

Secondary Band
M

iddle School Band students will learn various instrumental techniques, sight-reading, and music theory. They will be given enriching opportunities to improve their skills through solos, group performances, concerts, sight-reading competitions, and a chance to audition for Honor Band ensembles.

In High School Band, the primary focus is performance. Students will continue to improve upon instrumental techniques, sight-reading, music theory, and performance techniques. Students are given opportunities to audition for all-state ensembles and compete in solo and ensemble as well as concert and sight-reading.

Secondary band students will participate in the Eagle Band which performs at home football games and select playoff games.  Students may participate in the chapel worship band and will have opportunities to play in the community as well as at multiple school events. 

All band students will have the opportunity to perform several times throughout the year in concerts and school functions.

2022-2023

  • TPSMEA MS Honor Band – one student selected to perform in the concert
  • TPSMEA Region HS Band – one student selected to audition for the HS All State Band
  • ATSSB Region Band – one student selected to move on to area auditions
  • TPSMEA State Solo and Ensemble – sax trio and piano solo receive Superior ratings
  • TPSMEA Concert and in Sight-reading – Eagle band received Superior rating in both. Three soloists receive Superior ratings. All ensembles receive Superior rating and advance to State.


2021-2022

  • TPSMEA Superior Rating in Concert Performance – High School Women’s Choir

Elementary and Intermediate School Visual Arts
S

tudents in grades K-4 will attend art class once a week, and students in grades 5-6 will attend art class 4 times a week.  Students will learn various techniques in drawing, sketching, printmaking, ceramics, and clay and learn about different artists and the role art plays in history and culture.  Students in grades K-2 will enter art into a school-wide art show, and students in grades 3-6 may enter art into the ACSI Art Festival.  Throughout the year, students will see their art displayed in the foyers, on the covers of exemplary arts programs, and framed in our hallways.

Middle School Visual Arts
S

tudents will attend art class 5 times a week and learn various drawing, sketching, printmaking, ceramics, pottery, design, and watercolor techniques.  Along with learning about different artists, art history, and art techniques, students may enter art into the ACSI Art Festival.  Students learn through hands-on experience the valuable role of art in the church, worship, and our culture.

High School Visual Arts
S

tudents will begin with Art I and then progress to Art II-IV and advanced art techniques throughout high school.  Students attend art class 5 times a week and are improving and perfecting various techniques in sketching, drawing, colored pencil, printmaking, batique, ceramics, pottery, photography, and watercolor.  Students in Art II will have the opportunity to submit pieces of art into the Rodeo Art Show.  CHS students have earned multiple awards and received college scholarship money in excess of $120,000 over the past four years through the Rodeo Art Show.

Our CHS Art students have earned the TAPPS 3A State Championship seven years in a row. CHS students in Art I and Art II will also submit art into the TAPPS Art Show and the ACSI Art Show. Students have the opportunity to learn new art techniques and continue to learn that art is an expression of worship to our Heavenly Father.

  • TAPPS 3A Art State Champions seven years in a row
  • Rodeo Art Show Castle Hills had 2 of the twelve top winners earning $20,000 in scholarship money. Castle Hills had 20 total entries in the competition and 13 placed, including five 2nd place winners and six 3rd place winners.

THEATRE arts
T

he Christian School at Castle Hills offers classes in Theatre Arts to students in grades 5-12 and provides multiple performance opportunities throughout the year. Our department participates in the TAPPS One Act Play competition and produces a musical and full-length play in the winter and spring. In addition, the theatre department participates in the Choir department’s Madrigal Dinner production. Our One Act Play has placed first in District for the past two years. Students will learn make-up techniques, costuming, staging, and production.

Intermediate School Theatre Arts
T

heatre Arts for our Intermediate students will be an introductory course where we gain a broad, biblical worldview of theatre arts as a course subject. We will study various topics such as types of theatre, theatre histories, introduction to voice and movement, and a foundation for technical theatre. Students will have performance opportunities, such as acting or working as a technician for scenes and showcases.

Middle School Theatre
M

iddle School Theatre will expand on the foundational lessons begun in the Intermediate classes in the realm of performance. In this course, students will start exploring improvisation, monologues, duet scenes, theatre for young audiences, and introductory technical theatre units. Students will build performance skills by being offered opportunities to participate in a class production in the spring.

High School Theatre Arts
H

igh School Theatre consists of a comprehensive study of Theatre Arts, including theatre history, acting, stage design, stage technology, and script analysis. Coursework at the high school level is composed of advanced study and topics which are offered on a rotating basis. Units will include Shakespeare, Advanced Voice and Movement, Technical Theatre, Directing, and Playwriting.

Students are encouraged to participate in our department’s productions. Castle Hills has an active International Thespian Society providing middle and high school students leadership opportunities to enhance their dramatic skills further.
